A heat advisory will be in effect in South Central Pennsylvania through Friday with heat indexes expected to top 100 degrees, leaving workers outside to seek a way to beat the heat.

The U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration is emphasizing worker safety during the heatwave and is looking to ensure that employers provide the proper rest and hydration to their outdoor employees.

Cloudy and cooler today, occasional showers in south-central Pennsylvania

We’ll squeeze in a little sunshine this morning, before clouds gradually increase. Scattered morning showers will pass through the Susquehanna Valley, as a warm front approaches.

This afternoon, look for mostly cloudy skies, light southeasterly winds, and temperatures around 64 degrees. That’s much cooler than the 80 we had on Sunday and Monday, and the mid-70s yesterday! However, 64 is more seasonable for mid-April. Occasional showers are possible this afternoon and evening.

Thunderstorms possible Friday before a clearer weekend in central Pa.

After thunderstorms overnight, rain continues to fall in central Pennsylvania Friday morning but should move out for the start of the weekend

The National Weather Service in State College says the Harrisburg area will likely see showers, and maybe thunderstorms, this morning. There’s less of a chance of rain the rest of the day. It’s also windy, with gusts as high as 36 mph.

The closures are affecting counties including Juniata, Mifflin, Centre, and Clearfield.

Juniata County:

  • 3005 (Chicken Plant Road/Nelson Road/Cedar Spring Road) from the intersection of Main Street in Walker Township, to the intersection of Route 75 in Walker Township.
  • REOPENED: Route 1007 (Heister Valley Road) in Monroe Township between and the Snyder County line and Route 35.
  • REOPENED: Route 3004 (Tuscarora Road) in Turbett Township between the intersections of Route 333 and Stouffer Road.

Another day of heavy rain expected in South-Central Pennsylvania

Many areas in South-Central Pennsylvania have picked up 2 to 3 inches of rain over the past 48 hours, and it’s not done yet.

What is a typical Central PA spring like?

We’re coming off an El Nino winter and what has been a very active pattern for the last several months. Much of last year was very dry until November and December, meanwhile over the winter snowpack and frequent rains have replenished our ground water supplies. In fact, all draught restrictions have now been lifted in every County across the commonwealth and we appear to be in good shape heading in to the Spring planting season.

Resident Killed When Tree Falls On House In Central Pennsylvania: Officials

Scott Quickel has been identified as the man killed in this tragic tree fall, the Cumberland County Coroner Charles Hall told Daily Voice.

The tree fell onto a house at 804 Baltimore Pike/US Route 94 in South Middleton Township, Gardeners, at 3:10 a.m. on March 11, according to Cumberland County Emergency Dispatch.

Hundreds without power across Central Pa.

Over 1,000 Penn Electric and PPL customers experienced power outages Monday morning across Central Pennsylvania amid high winds.

As of 5:30 a.m., nearly 1,000 West Penn Power customers and over 200 PPL customers were experiencing outages in Cumberland County.

Warm Monday, rain returns tonight in south-central Pennsylvania

We’ll see a mix of clouds and sunshine this afternoon, leading to highs around 64 degrees, our warmest day of the week. Today’s average high is 47.

Tonight, low pressure will move up the East Coast, and light rain will develop from south to north.

Rain will continue during the Tuesday morning commute, before wrapping up Tuesday afternoon. Highs will be cooler, in the low 50s, but still above average. Some clearing is possible toward evening.

Wild forecast calls for anywhere between 1 and 8 inches of snow in south-central Pa.

A storm could deliver anywhere from one inch to half a foot of snow in parts of south-central Pennsylvania, and the heaviest precipitation is expected to fall during the Tuesday morning commute, according to the National Weather Service.

The weather service has revised its forecast because the storm has shifted farther south than previously expected, according to a winter storm watch issued mid-morning on Monday.
