Rita’s opening another stop in south-central Pa.

Rita’s Italian Ice & Frozen Custard is branching out in south-central Pennsylvania.

A shop is opening on May 8 at 731 Wayne Ave. in Chambersburg. It will feature outdoor patio seating for 60 guests and a drive-thru.

Owners Keila and Mark Trace said they are excited to bring Rita’s to the community.

She grew up on a sheep farm in the Falkland Islands, an archipelago east of the Southern Patagonian coast. Now she owns Rowntree Farm in Mechanicsburg.

At her stand in York’s Central Market, she offers pasture-raised meat, eggs and a variety of dairy products from Apple Valley Creamery in East Berlin, including raw milk, which is one of her best-selling items.

Agriculture Department Warns Consumers To Discard Contaminated Raw Milk Products From Conoco View Dairy Sold And Delivered In Six Central Pennsylvania Counties

The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture warns consumers to immediately discard all Conoco View Dairy raw milk sold in Cumberland, Juniata, Perry, Snyder, and York Counties, or delivered direct to homes or drop-off points in Cumberland, Dauphin, Juniata, and Perry Counties. The Department ran tests after 11 reports of campylobacteriosis illnesses in December and January and confirmed Campylobacter contamination in the dairy’s products.

While the source of the bacteria is clear, every specific production date could not be pinpointed. All products, including those in consumers’ freezers, should be discarded.

Joe Nyanko, from Cambria County, owns 15 McDonald’s branches in Central Pa. and has made the decision to stop serving buffalo sauce in hopes of bringing good luck to the Steelers.

Weis Markets donated $250,000 to the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank on Monday. The Money came from the company’s 16th annual Fight Hunger Campaign. That campaign invites shoppers to round up their bills to the nearest dollar and donate the change.

Central Pa. Food Bank receives $50,000 donation from the Bayer Fund

The Central Pennsylvania Food Bank on Wednesday announced that it has received a $50,000 grant from the Bayer Fund, the philanthropic arm of the Bayer corporation in the United States.

The money will be used to source and distribute fresh, grocery store quality food to Lebanon County residents who are experiencing food insecurity, Central PA Food Bank CEO Joe Arthur said in a press release. The USDA defines food insecurity as the lack of access or uncertainty of access to adequate food needed to sustain an active, healthy life.

Food banks in need of more food donations as Hunger Action Month comes to an end

September is nationally known as Hunger Action Month, an annual campaign to raise awareness about hunger in the United States. During September, some food banks experience an increase in food donation, especially so close to major holidays like Thanksgiving and Christimas. However, food banks across Pennsylvania are still struggling to collect food donations.

On Saturday, Central Pennsylvania Food Bank hosted its annual Pack-a-Thon, an event meant to raise awareness on the issue of hunger across the state.
