Traffic shift planned at central Pa. interchange improvement project

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced there will be a traffic shift early tomorrow morning on northbound Centerville Road at the Centerville Road Interchange Improvement Project in East Hempfield Township, Lancaster County.

Weather permitting, traffic will be shifted at 3 a.m. Thursday on northbound Centerville Road at the entrance to the Wheatland Federal Credit Union, located between Estelle Drive and Route 23 (Marietta Avenue) so a pipe can be installed across the business’s driveway before business hours. Work is expected to be completed before the credit union opens.

AAA Central Pennsylvania offers tips for driving safely through the snow

Traffic: Crashes, delays on south-central Pennsylvania roads

Here’s a rundown of delays and crashes:

  • Road closed due to crash on PA-230 Front St both ways between Pine St and Swatara St.
  • Road closed due to flooding on Lingle Ave both ways between Northside Dr and Oatfield Ln.

Roundabouts are safer than other intersections, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation reports, because they have fewer potential conflict points and require motorists to drive at slower speeds. They also offer “easier decision making,” the commonwealth’s department of transportation says.

More electric vehicle charging stations coming to central Pennsylvania

New electric vehicle charging stations are coming to central Pennsylvania. Fifty-four projects across the state have been selected for National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure, or NEVI, funding.

Blair, Centre, Clearfield, Clinton and Jefferson counties are each getting at least one charging station. PennDOT Secretary Mike Carroll said the hope is to have construction start later this year or the beginning of next year.

Central Pa. counties receiving funds for Electric vehicle infrastructure

Federal funding will be headed towards 35 counties, five of which are local, to help create charging infrastructure for electric vehicles.

Fifty-four projects in 35 counties were selected to expand access to, and the reliability of, electric vehicle charging within Pennsylvania. The $33.8 million federal investment is part of the $171.5 million PennDOT will receive and distribute for electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure over five years through the federal Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL).

Expect delays this week on major routes in north central Pa.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation has provided updates on road work and construction projects this week:

Lycoming County 

Epoxy overlay work continues through Friday on the structures that carry the highway over Loyalsock Creek, Fairfield Road, and Brushy Ridge Road. The work is being conducted from 7 to 2 p.m. each day. Lane closures are in place, which will cause delays during peak traffic hours of 7 and 9 a.m., as well as 2 and 6 p.m.

Expect traffic delays this week on Route 15 in central Pa.: PennDOT

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced that delays are expected this week on Route 15 in the Dillsburg area due to paving operations associated with a resurfacing and safety improvement project.

Weather permitting, on Monday, the contractor will begin working on a section of Route 15 from just north of Golf Course/Range End Road to just south of Glenwood Road. Work will begin at approximately 5:30 a.m. and will continue during daylight hours, according to a press release.

Gas prices are down locally but will we see them hit $4 again later this year?

The average price for gas in central Pa. is down 5.2 cents a gallon in the past week while prices nationally are starting to creep upward.

The average price for a gallon of gas in the Harrisburg area on Monday, March 6, 2023, is $3.61 a gallon – 16 cents lower than a month ago and 63.5 cents lower than a year ago, according to GasBuddy.

Drivers killed in central Pa. crash on Route 30: state police

A man and woman were killed in a head-on collision Monday afternoon on Route 30 in Franklin County, Pennsylvania State Police said.

Richard E. Cowan, 69, of Chambersburg, crossed from the eastbound lanes into oncoming westbound traffic around 2 p.m. near the Campbells Run Road intersection in Saint Thomas Township, according to state police.

State police said Cowan’s vehicle collided head-on with the vehicle of 42-year-old Maura J. Boyce, of Mercersburg.

Central Pa. municipalities among those to get funding for traffic-safety projects

Gov. Tom Wolf on Wednesday announced that the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) will distribute approximately $15 million in Automated Red-Light Enforcement (ARLE) funding to 32 municipalities statewide.

The money will fund 36 safety projects.

High winds result in lane restriction on nearly mile-long central Pa. bridge

NORTHUMBERLAND – High wind gusts have at times Wednesday required trucks using the nearly mile-long Central Susquehanna Valley Thruway bridge over the West Branch of the Susquehanna River to stay in the passing lane.

Message boards containing the lane restriction are activated when cross winds reach 35 miles an hour. Truckers also are advised to slow to 40 miles an hour.
