Central PA Festival of the Arts to bring new entertainment to State College

125,000 people will make their way to State College to volunteer and experience the Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts in State College.

Organizers released a new app and program guide this year intended to make planning a trip to this year’s festival easier than ever.

Central Pennsylvania dance studios prepare April showcase to benefit Ukrainian children

Dance studios in South Central Pennsylvania are teaming up to raise money for Ukrainian children as the war nears the one-year mark.

The 2023 Releve Spring Showcase Benefit involves ten dance studios across Lancaster, Lebanon and York. The event will feature a collection of dances. All proceeds from the event will go towards providing medical care to Ukrainian children.

Very Local: It’s fun and games at York’s retro arcade

York has plenty to offer to foodies and history buffs, but it also has something for the 80s kid in all of us.

Timeline Arcade is the largest retro arcade in south-central Pennsylvania and has over 300 games at its location, according to its website. For more than a decade, Timeline has been offering arcade games and other entertainment opportunities to the area, says owner Brandon Spencer.

A central PA team is advancing in the Little League World Series. What’s next and how to watch

in Entertainment/Sports

Representing central Pennsylvania in the Little League World Series, Hollidaysburg continued to advance in the tournament Tuesday with a 10-0, 4-inning mercy rule victory over Hagerstown, Indiana.

Chase Link hit a home run over the left-center field fence for a solo home run in the first inning. Tyler McGough went on to drive in three runs and Beau Rabel had two runs batted in for the victory.

Local H Announces Here Comes The Zoo 20th Anniversary Fall 2022 Tour Dates

Illinois based rock band Local H has announced fall 2022 tour dates in celebration of Here Comes The Zoo’s 20th anniversary. The album was originally released in March 2002.

The band will be kicking off the anniversary tour in Omaha, Nebraska at Slowdown on September 11. They will then visit Colorado, Utah, Idaho, Oregon, Washington, California, Arizona, Texas, Tennessee, Indiana, Ohio, Illinois, Iowa, Missouri, Wisconsin, Georgia, South Carolina, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Washington, D.C., New York, Massachusetts and Connecticut. The group will end their trek with back to back shows in Canada including one in Montreal, Quebec on December 12 at Le Belmont and another in Toronto, Ontario on December 13 at Adelaide Hall.

‘Free Fun:’ Harrisburg community beats the heat by visiting local pool

HARRISBURG, Pa. — Harrisburg residents made their way out to the Jackson Lick Pool on Wednesday for a free Community Day to beat the heat.

The free day of fun was available to any city resident who stopped by. Harrisburg officials say they’re always excited to host events that bring the community together.

“One thing about today is that I’ve seen a lot more adults come in with their children. This is one of the main components that we’ve been trying to reach,” said Kevin Sanders, the Parks & Recreation Manager in Harrisburg.

This year — the first in-person Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts and People’s Choice Festival since 2019 — there may be even more questions. Some big changes are in place, including a venue change for People’s Choice and a new all-access pass for Arts Fest performances.

Bellefonte kicked off Fourth of July weekend on Saturday with Logan Fire Company’s Independence Day parade.

Hundreds of people lined the streets from the high school to Talleyrand Park to watch as local emergency responders, musicians, youth performing arts groups, political figures and more proceeded through the borough, tossing more than 10,000 pieces of candy along the way.

1. Kane Brown at the Bryce Jordan Center (Centre County)

Multi-platinum country artist Kane Brown is performing at the Bryce Jordan Center this weekend, Nov. 6. The show starts at 7 p.m. and is part of his “Blessed & Free Tour.” Jordan Davis and Restless Road will also be performing.

Tickets are still on sale and you can grab them on Ticketmaster.

2. Hollidaysburg Heritage Guided Tour (Blair County)

Take a tour of Hollidaysburg and learn about local history in Blair County on Nov. 6! The walking tour runs from 12:15 to 1:45 p.m., but there is also an optional brunch that runs from 11 a.m. to noon. Learn about the history of Port Hollidaysburg in the 1800s.

The walking tour is $12 per person. The walking tour + brunch combo is $24 per person. Wear comfortable shoes and dress for the weather.

National Christmas Tree begins voyage from Pennsylvania to DC

MIDDLEBURG, Pa. (WBRE/WYOU) — Preparations for the Christmas season are already underway in Washington D.C. as a Christmas tree from a farm in Pennsylvania’s Snyder County began its voyage to the nation’s capital Friday morning.

Darryl Bowersox grew up working on his grandfather’s farm, purchased in 1954. Decades later, he owns Hill View Christmas Tree Farm in Middleburg.

“I look at this, not so much from my own standpoint, but what it means to the area,” said Bowersox.

After more than three decades of growing the 28-and-a-half foot tree, Bowersox decided to donate it to the nation as the 2021 National Christmas Tree, which will be lit by President Biden. A trailer carrying the massive tree departed for Washington D.C. just after 9:00 a.m. according to Nexstar’s WBRE/WYOU.

1. FearFest 2021 (Blair County)

Head to Tyrone’s Camp Anderson this Halloween weekend for FearFest 2021.

This event will be full of screams and fun as you navigate through a haunted house, take a trip on a hayride and traverse the Extreme Trail. Attendees can also compete in an Alien themed paintball competition.

FearFest is comprised of volunteer crews that scare and entertain guests while helping raise funds for the Non-Profit Camp Anderson Corporation.

The event runs from Friday, Oct. 29 to Saturday, Oct. 30. Admission will be $8 per person per attraction.

Boomer’s Drive-Thru Trick or Treat returns this Friday

Williamsport — Boomer’s Drive-Thru Trick or Treat, a free trick or treating experience for children and their families, will return this year — organized by The Williamsport Crosscutters in association with the City of Williamsport. 

The event will take place in the Muncy Bank Ballpark parking lot on Friday, Oct. 29 from 6 to 8 p.m. and is sponsored by UPMC and Backyard Broadcasting.

Hosted by Boomer, the Cutters’ popular mascot, the event welcomes costumed children age 14 to join a fun, safe, trick or treating experience. Over twenty area businesses, along with some of Boomer’s mascot buddies, will be handing out treats at the event, according to the event press release.
