Detour currently in place for Bloomsburg Reconstruction Project in Columbia County

in Pennsylvania

Bloomsburg, Pa. — Route 487 (Poplar Street) will be closed between Eight and Tenth streets in Bloomsburg Tuesday as part of the reconstruction project.

The following detours are in place with signs to assist travelers:

  •  Route 487 traffic traveling north and continuing to Route 487 will be detoured onto Fort McClure Boulevard, Market Street, Main Street (Route 11); southbound 487 will be the reverse order.
  •  Route 487 truck traffic traveling north to Route 11 will be detoured onto Fort McClure Boulevard, Market Street, and Main Street (Route 11).
  •  Route 487 car traffic traveling north to Route 11 will be detoured onto Fort McClure Boulevard and Market Street; Route 11 north traffic will follow East Sixth Street; Route 11 south traffic will continue on Market Street to Main Street (Route 11).
  •  Route 11 traffic traveling south to Route 487 south will be detoured onto East Street (Route 11), Main Street (Route 11), Market Street, Fort McClure Boulevard.
  •  Route 11 traffic traveling north to Route 487 south will be detoured onto Market Street, Fort McClure Boulevard.

UPMC launches pediatric telemedicine program in northcentral Pa

Pittsburgh, Pa. – Beginning this month, UPMC has expanded its pediatric care services to include virtual appointments, with specialists at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh.

Telemedicine appointments are conducted through local providers who can request a virtual consultation.

This service allows pediatric patients to connect seamlessly with UPMC Children’s 400+ physicians across 33 subspecialities.

“This collaboration is giving our patients superior access to quality pediatric specialty care,” said Ashley Pence, D.O., medical director, Pediatrics, UPMC in North Central Pa.

West Pharmaceutical in Lycoming County set for expansion, will create 200 new area jobs

Harrisburg, Pa. – Good things, and new jobs, are about to be happening for the area around Williamsport and Jersey Shore, according to the governor’s office.

West Pharmaceutical Services, Inc., a global manufacturer in design and production of high-quality delivery systems for injectable medicines, will be expanding and modernizing its Williamsport manufacturing plant, according to the Wolf administration.

This will mean an $18 million investment into the expansion project.

7 Central Pa. National Guardsman are listed among The Governor’s Twenty after competing in statewide shooting competition

ANNVILLE, Pa. — Seven Central Pennsylvania National Guard soldiers and airmen finished in the top 20 of a statewide shooting competition held at Fort Indiantown Gap, the PNG said Tuesday.

Created in 1968, the Governor’s Twenty is a state-level National Guard award presented annually to the top 20 shooters in a state. Competitors use both rifles and pistols in multiple courses of fire.

Through this fierce competition, participants test marksmanship skills and weapon systems in a battle-focused environment.

Central Pennsylvania family drives students to school for three generations

One family in Central PA has served families in the region for three generations, spending decades behind the wheel at Rohrer Bus getting students to and from school.

“Every day is different,” says Judy Shatto, a retired bus driver of 46 years.

Her granddaughter, Bailey Fach, chimes in, “I’m 22 years old but I have 65 kids.”

Those kids she’s referring to are the students on her bus. Her mother, Tiffany Thomas, grew up as the “bus monitor” for her mother, Judy Shatto.

Couple finds that 450,000 bees were living in the walls of their Pa. home for decades: report

Imagine buying a new house and finding out there are around 450,000 bees that have been living in the walls for 35 years.

That’s what happened to a couple in Skippack, Pennsylvania, according to CNN.

Sara Weaver and her husband bought the 1872 farmhouse in December and told CNN the seller’s disclosure mentioned there were bees in the wall but since the couple bought the home in the winter, she told the network that the bees didn’t seem to pose much of a threat at the time of purchase.

Inside the prestigious Central Pa. Youth Ballet’s summer intensive program

Summer camp is a rite of passage for many children. Camping, swimming and outdoor play typically dominate the activities list but the five-week Summer Ballet Intensive Program at the Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet (CPYB) is much different.

Students ranging from ages 7 through 18 gathered at CPYB, one of the most recognized classical ballet schools in the world. Tucked away in a warehouse studio on the western edge of the Dickinson College campus in Carlisle, the school has been preparing dancers for the world’s top ballet companies for more than 65 years.

3 Central Pa. eateries among the participants in the inaugural Pennsylvania Big Pig Out pork barbecue trail

HARRISBURG, Pa. — Three Central Pennsylvania Barbecue restaurants are among the 21 listed participants in the inaugural PA Pork Producers Council Big Pig Out Barbecue Trail.

The Big Pig Out invites friends from across the state to travel throughout Pennsylvania, visiting up to nearly two dozen participating barbecue restaurants to fill their “passports” while “pigging out.” 

Each restaurant will stamp the passports of visitors from now through September 30th. 

The Central PA participants are:

  • Redd’s Smokehouse BBQ, 109 N. Hanover St., Carlisle
  • Redd’s Smokehouse BBQ, 4890 Carlisle Pike, Mechanicsburg
  • 3 Hogs BBQ, 174 North St., Hanover
