Some 84% of Pennsylvania students passed a newly required civics exam, part of a wave of similar mandates pushed hard by Republican lawmakers around the country, but one that hasn’t come with strict accountability.

More kids are repeating a grade. Is it good for them?

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — As Braylon Price remembers it, he struggled with pretty much everything the first full school year of the pandemic. With minimal guidance and frequent disruptions, he had trouble staying on top of assignments and finishing homework on time.

It was so rocky his parents asked for him to repeat sixth grade — a decision they credit with getting him on a better track.

Harrisburg nonprofit working to keep kids in school

HARRISBURG, Pa. — The new school year is right around the corner, and thousands of kids throughout the Commonwealth will be making their way back to class.

One local nonprofit will also be going back to school, helping students who are regularly missing class.

“Our staff are working to reengage those students in a very grassroots movement,” Jessica Knapp said.

Advance Central PA receives $80,058 state grant to promote manufacturing careers

in Business/Community

Advance Central PA, an organization overseeing programs designed to assure businesses in Central Pennsylvania remain competitive, recently received an $80,058 Pennsylvania’s Manufacturing PA Training-to-Career Program (MTTC) grant.

The organization will use the funding to produce five videos highlighting local careers in manufacturing and Career and Technology Education (CTE) programs that prepare students for entering manufacturing careers.
