A solar-powered mountain home with succulents on the roof is for sale in central Pa.

A 17-acre estate in North Middleton Township — just north of Carlisle in Cumberland County, about a 2 1/2 hour drive west of Philly — hit the market this month for $600,000. The bed of succulents living on the roof of the property’s rancher home, insulated by 3 feet of soil, immediately jumps out as the most unique feature of the property. And if you’re wondering, the roof doesn’t need to be mowed.

A seller’s market persists across Pennsylvania, according to the latest report from the Pennsylvania Association of Realtors, and the State College area has seen notable increases in its home values.

In fact, median home values in some parts of central Pennsylvania have jumped by as much as roughly 11% over the past year.

The central Pennsylvania couple who was quarantined on a cruise ship, where more than 200 passengers tested positive for novel coronavirus, is back in the United States.

But it may be up to two weeks before they are home in Dillsburg.

Bill and Colette Smedley arrived early this morning at an Air Force Base in Texas after having departed the Diamond Princess, docked in Japan since Feb. 3 when several passengers tested positive.
