Bill to boost funding for minority-owned businesses passes Pa. House

in News

Pennsylvania’s minority-owned businesses may soon secure the capital needed to grow and remain competitive. 

Pennsylvania’s House of Representatives passed House Bill 2202 to create funding to provide low-interest loans and equity financing for eligible enterprises. Introduced by state Rep. Scott Conklin, D-Centre County, the bill advances to the state Senate for consideration.

Cable companies in northeastern and central Pennsylvania get big bucks to expand high-speed internet

in Community/Government/News

Ten northeastern and central Pennsylvania counties will share in more than $31.25 million to extend access to broadband internet service, according to a state agency.

In all, the Pennsylvania Broadband Development Authority awarded almost $204.2 million to 53 projects in 42 counties on Thursday. The projects will bring high-speed internet access to about 40,000 homes and businesses and have an estimated total value of almost $407 million.

Pennsylvania airports to get share of $1 billion in federal airport terminal funding

Three Pennsylvania airports will be among those receiving funds from the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Airport Terminal Program, part of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act.

Pittsburgh International Airport (PIT) will receive $5.3 million for part of the construction of a new 700,000 square foot landside terminal that will reduce the distance between the ticketing, security and gates by half a mile, according to a release from U.S. Rep. Summer Lee (D-12th District).

New budget takes ‘Level Up’ funding away from Central Pa schools

The 2023 budget in Pennsylvania has been finalized, the last code bills signed by Governor Josh Shapiro, but the language does not include a program designed to help underfunded school districts.

The Level Up program was not included in the education and fiscal codes. Even though it was a part of the original budget signed by the governor in July.

Gov. Wolf Announces Nearly $36 Million to Support Communities Across Pennsylvania

Today, Governor Tom Wolf announced the approval of $35,970,850 through the Neighborhood Assistance Program (NAP) to promote community participation and collaborations among nonprofits, businesses, and residents while producing outcomes that assist a distressed area or the low-income population in a neighborhood. The funding will support 213 community revitalization projects across the commonwealth.

“Pennsylvania’s communities are the foundation of our economic success,” said Gov. Wolf. “The Neighborhood Assistance Program encourages businesses to make impactful investments in worthy projects across the commonwealth, helping to improve the lives of Pennsylvanians.
