Pa. mountain fire spreads to at least 100 acres, officials say

A fire that broke out on state forest lands on Shade Mountain in Snyder County Friday morning is continuing to spread Saturday despite firefighters’ efforts to contain it, Pennsylvania officials say.

At least 10 different volunteer fire companies are on the mountain, using bulldozers to punch down fire lines and a helicopter to fight the flames, according to John Portzline, a representative of the Department of the Conservation of Natural Resources.
