From first case to nearly 16,000 deaths, a look at the pandemic that took over our lives

The cases started to come slowly in early March. By the end of the month, Pennsylvania was in a lockdown because of COVID-19.

Students and parents were quickly introduced to mandated online learning and working. People found new ways to celebrate milestones and learned the beauty of video calls and meetings.

Holiday gatherings were missed, proms and homecomings were canceled, sports seasons wiped out, and weddings and funerals postponed. After months under “stay-at-home” orders, the state slowly reopened as the weather grew warmer.

Restaurants were allowed outdoor dining, and groups could gather in small numbers.

We learned to grab a face covering with our car keys and cellphones when leaving our homes and to give people space when around those you didn’t live with.
