Events and ways to observe Juneteenth 2024 in central Pennsylvania

On June 19, 1865, two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation, federal troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, to let the last of the enslaved people know they were free.

June 19 is known as Juneteenth, a day marking the end of slavery in the United States. The date officially became a federal holiday on June 17, 2021.
