Philly Sports Fans Are the Worst. They’re Also the Best

in Community/News/Sports

After all, Philadelphia fans once booed Santa Claus. During a 1989 game between the Philadelphia Eagles and Dallas Cowboys in the City of Brotherly Love, spectators at Veterans Stadium pelted players, refs, and broadcasters with snowballs—and the Eagles won. Things got so bad at the Vet that a jail and courtroom were installed in the bowels of the stadium to handle unruly fans. Last year a Phillies fan tossed the cell phone of a Mets supporter out of the left-field seats. GQ once rated the Phillies and Eagles as having the first and second worst fan bases in America, respectively.

Pittsburgh’s Opening Night Roster Stays True to Its DNA

in News/Sports

After Penguins President of Hockey Operations and GM Kyle Dubas first joined the organization back in June, he worked to familiarize himself with the championship-caliber core in place, wanting to figure out every possible way he could improve what was already here.

“As Mike Sullivan says, the DNA of the team is offense,” Dubas said. “So, if we tried to flip that at this stage, it’s not really something that I believe in, and it’s not really something that the group in the locker room believes in. So, we’ve just got to continue to build out that way and look back at what hasn’t worked, look back at where we’ve been a bit short, and try to adapt and bring in different people that can help us move there.”

Sánchez, Schwarber help Phils win 5th straight series

in Community/News/Sports

For more than three hours, the game between the Phillies and A’s at Oakland Coliseum on Saturday had a little bit of everything: heroic pitching, injury scares and a frustratingly quiet output from a Phillies offense that had been red-hot coming into the game.

In the final 15 minutes, the Phillies added another key element — aggressiveness. And that ended up being the difference-maker in a 3-2 win over the A’s in 12 innings.

Phillies lose their sixth straight after another ineffective starting pitching performance

in Community/News/Sports

Bailey Falter trudged away from the mound Saturday night, boos cascading down upon him. It was the fourth inning, and five runs were already in, another dud by a starting pitcher that left the aggregate ERA of the Phillies’ rotation at 5.03.

Repeat: 5.03.

Go ahead, then, and carp about Kyle Schwarber (batting average: .176) atop the order, or Trea Turner’s meh start, or the bullpen.
