A Central PA man has become a member of the first class of astronaut candidates to graduate under NASA’s Artemis program and is now eligible for spaceflight, including a potential trip to Mars.

United States Air Force Lieutenant Colonel Bob Hines went to high school in Mountaintop, PA, but considers Harrisburg his hometown.

Pennsylvania ski resorts offer beginners’ discounts throughout January

Gov. Tom Wolf has officially declared January 2020 Learn to Ski and Snowboard Month in Pennsylvania. For the entire month, members of the Pennsylvania Ski Areas Association (SkiPA) are offering special discounts on learn-to-ski packages, which makes it affordable and convenient for first-timers to get started.

“The Pennsylvania ski resorts are dedicated to providing diverse winter recreational opportunities to help families spend quality time outdoors together,” said Linda Irvin executive director of the Pennsylvania Ski Areas Association. “Learn to Ski and Snowboard Month is a perfect time for families to learn a new winter sport and take advantage of tremendous savings.”

2020 comes to central Pa. with Grace, the new year’s first baby

A Lebanon couple has earned the distinction of adding the first soul to south central Pennsylvania’s population base in the 2020s, just in time for the upcoming federal census.

UPMC Pinnacle spokeswoman Kelly McCall said Mary Stonebraker gave birth at Women’s Place, UPMC Lititz to a baby girl at 12:34 a.m. Wednesday. Newly christened Grace Marie checked in weighing 6 pounds, 15 ounces, and 19 inches long.
