HARRISBURG, Pa. — With so many people unemployed because of the coronavirus pandemic, the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank is straining to meet the increased demand for food assistance.
The Central Pennsylvania Food Bank said it distributed 35% more pounds of food this March than it did last year. Each day, volunteers are putting together as many as 5,000 food boxes, which is twice the volume of boxes packed prior to the crisis.
The food bank will not be accepting food from food drives or households during the outbreak but is encouraging people to contribute financially. Donations are accepted at the food bank’s website.
