It has been nine years since the historic flooding in central Pennsylvania caused by Tropical Storm Lee.
Thousands of people across the state were evacuated as more than a foot of rain fell on same areas. In Middletown alone 69 houses had to be demolished because of flood damage. Damage in Dauphin County was estimated at more than $150 million from the storm that hit here Sept. 7-9, 2011.
Dauphin County officials determined that 294 homes and businesses throughout the county were destroyed, 1,039 sustained major damage and 1,265 suffered minor damage.
The Swatara Creek crested at 27 feet, more than 10 feet above the previous high. More than a foot of rain fell in Lebanon and Dauphin counties.
