Central Pa. company to open 25,000-square foot hardware store with a number of repair shops

A new 25,000-square-foot hardware store is coming to Upper Allen Township.

PaulB Hardware Mechanicsburg is expected to open next fall at 121 Gettysburg Pike near Planet Fitness, Messiah College and CVS Pharmacy.

PaulB Hardware is a heavy-duty hardware store that serves contractors, industrial and agricultural sectors, and homeowners. The new store will feature a number of departments including paint, power tools, hand tools, lawn and garden, farm and ranch, agricultural and industrial parts, automotive, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, home and outdoor, outdoor power equipment and home hardware.

PaulB Mechanicsburg will have repair shops for tools, pumps, generators, and outdoor power equipment, and the store will also provide a number of other services including key cutting.

The store is expected to employ up to 30 people for the store opening. More employees will be added as the business grows. Alexander Building Construction Co. will soon begin renovations on the vacant building, which was previously occupied by a furniture store, a Giant Food store, and a Planet Fitness, which relocated to a building next door.

Medical marijuana dispensary to open this week in Harrisburg

A medical marijuana dispensary is scheduled to open on Wednesday in Harrisburg.

Zen Leaf Harrisburg will open at 137 S. 17th St.

The new dispensary offers a variety of cannabis products including concentrates, infused products, vaporizers, and flower. Registered medical marijuana cardholders can also order online at www.zenleafdispensaries.com with same day, in-store pick up.

The new 3,000-square-foot store will be the first of three stores in Pennsylvania for Verano, a multi-state cannabis company based in Chicago, which owns Zen Leaf Harrisburg.

Pandemic has been ‘body blow’ to local charities, feeding and helping neighbors in need

When Joe Arthur read the news this month that a large distribution center in York, Pennsylvania, would be closing its doors, he immediately pictured the ripple effect it would have.

“There goes 233 jobs, good jobs. That’s 233 families directly affected,” he said.

Arthur is the executive director of the Central PA Food Bank, the hub of a distribution network that typically feeds 135,000 people in the heart of Pennsylvania each month. Since the pandemic, that number has risen to about 200,000 people a month.

About one-third of those people are children, he said.

“We think of that in the cities, but what we’re seeing is the challenge in rural areas that have been impacted at least as hard as our small cities. A lot of those new families that we serve are in rural areas,” he said.

Morning rain expected to hit central Pa. Tuesday, along with 30-mph wind gusts

Rain showers coupled with powerful wind gusts could make an already chilly Tuesday in central Pennsylvania feel worse.

Forecasts show rain is expected in the region starting at 7 a.m. and continuing through 1 p.m. A slight chance of rain is possible later in the afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.

Tuesday’s highs are expected to climb to around 42 degrees.

Rain clouds will clear before Wednesday, but the gusty winds will not, forecasters said.

The NWS projects up to 20-mph are possible Wednesday, with highs in the low 40s.
Central Pennsylvania will be dry for the rest of the week; however, most days will not break the 40s. The warmest day of the week is Thursday, when highs are expected to reach near 50.
